Capitol Hill D.C. Real Estate

Capitol Hill is probably one of the most recognizable neighborhoods in Washington D.C. It's home to the United States Capitol, the Senate and House buildings, the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, Congressional Cemetery, and Union Station. About one third of its residents are active Members of Congress or lobbyists who make their home in Capitol Hill while in Washington.

Capitol Hill has one of the largest residential historical districts in the United States, and boasts stunning examples of Richardsonian, Beaux-Arts, Queen Anne and Federal architectural styles.

Capitol Hill's borders include the Anacostia River to the east, the H Street corridor to the north, the Southeast/Southwest Freeway to the south, and the National Mall and central business district to the west.

Capitol Hill Homes

The many varied styles of real estate in Capitol Hill include different periods of rowhouses, stately 19th century homes, Italianate, Federal townhouses, and small bungalows. A smattering of ultra-modern homes and condos dot the neighborhood, but many of the luxury buildings incorporate historical restorations into their building schema. The average sales price for a Capitol Hill home is just over $620,000.

Pennsylvania Avenue is a vibrant commercial district lined with upscale restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. Originating in 1873, the Eastern Market on 7th Street SE is still an active public market featuring fresh meat, produce and an outdoor flea market. The Union Station is the most visited site in Washington D.C. and serves not only as a train station, but as a popular 130 store shopping mall with a number of restaurants and entertainment venues.

In addition to containing many small parks and monuments, Capitol Hill borders a portion of the National Mall. This famous two and a half area of parkland extending along the Potomac River, is home to the famous Lincoln Memorial and boasts stunning views of the Arlington Memorial Bridge, Washington Monument and Constitution Gardens.
