Dupont Circle Homes

After the Civil War, Dupont Circle endured extensive modernization that included paved streets with sewers and lighting. Suddenly, this became the fashionable place to live and attracted some of the nation’s wealthiest families. Dupont Circle streets were lined with grand mansions including The Patterson House at 15 Dupont Circle. One of the few surviving estates surrounding Dupont Circle, this home was built in 1901 for Robert Patterson, editor of the Chicago Tribune, and his wife Nellie (heiress to the Tribune fortune).

Today many of the former estates are now occupied by embassies and various institutions and museums. The well kept brick row houses still remain on many of the tree-lined side streets. The Strivers' Section along 17th Street features a collection of Edwardian style homes as well as some high-priced apartments and condominiums. The average listing price for a Dupont Circle home is about $840,000.Dupont Circle is considered by many to be one of the most architecturally significant neighborhoods in the city, and most of the district falls under historic designation. The Dupont Circle Citizens Association has worked hard to maintain the integrity of this historic area through various grants and fundraising activities.

The Dupont Circle neighborhood is constructed around a traffic circle at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue NW, Connecticut Avenue NW , New Hampshire Avenue NW, P Street NW, and 19th Street NW. From here, it's a quick walk to Adams Morgan, Logan Circle, and Downtown, or you can hop on the Red Line at the Dupont Circle Metro Station. Located in the center of the community is the Dupont Memorial Fountain and park which serves as a popular gathering place for people watching or playing chess.

The year-round, rain or shine FRESHFARM Market on 20th St. has been named one of the top farmers' markets in the country by the Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times of London.
