Kalorama D.C. Real Estate

Kalorama (Greek for "beautiful view") is a stylish neighborhood in Northwest Washington, D.C. featuring beautifully preserved architecture and stately homes. Living up to its name, Kalorama is filled with scenic lots boasting exceptional views of the City, rolling hills and winding, tree-lined streets.

Real estate in Kalorama is in demand, and listings have been known to sell in only a few hours. Kalorama is bordered to the north and west by Rock Creek Park, to the southwest by Massachusetts Avenue N.W., to the south by P Street N.W., and to the east by 22nd Street, Florida Avenue, and Connecticut Avenue N.W.

Kalorama Homes

Kalorama homes consist of well-kept, free-standing and attached houses dating back to the early 1900's. There are a variety of apartment buildings ranging from the more modest to refurbished, modern luxury lofts and condominiums. Unlike in many Washington neighborhoods, here you can still find single-family homes and estates on large lots.

Popular real estate styles include English Arts and Crafts, Georgian Revival and Mediterranean (in both Italian and Spanish styles). Prices for Kalorama condominiums range from the high $200,000's to over $3 million. Prices for single-family homes range from $800,000 to over $7 million.

This affluent neighborhood has been home to a number of presidents including William Taft, Warren G. Harding, Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Considered as part of the Embassy Row area, Kalorama has a large population of foreign diplomats.

Kalorama Park is a favorite rest stop for locals and features grassy areas for picnicking, basketball courts, a recreation area and well-maintained community gardens. Also, nearby is the National Zoo, and local amenities such as cafes, restaurants, shopping and night clubs. Kalorama is home to the Phillips Collection, a small museum featuring a unique selection of impressionist and contemporary art.
