Observatory Circle is a small, but influential neighborhood in Northwest Washington, D.C. This area is home to the residence of the Vice-President (One Observatory Circle), as well as a number of embassies. Real estate in Observatory Circle is surrounded by protected forest and green space, due to a ruling banning highway development within 1,000 feet of the neighborhood.
Most of the homes in Observatory Circle are single-family Colonials and Tudor styles on spacious lots. Similarly styled town homes, cooperatives, and upscale condominiums are also present. There is about a block of multi-million dollar luxury homes in the southern tip of Observatory Circle and further detached homes with a view of the Vice President's residence extending to Wisconsin Avenue. Semi-detached homes and townhouses range in price from $700,000 to $950,000 except for the Alban Row houses proximate to the National Cathedral. These approach $2 million. Prices of detached single family homes start at just under $1 million but go as high as $10 million for the stately mansions on secluded large lots with ample amenities including swimming pools and tennis courts.
Observatory Circle is bordered by the 72-acre U.S. Naval Observatory and Calvert Street to the south, Massachusetts Avenue to the northeast, and Wisconsin Avenue to the west. There is no retail section in this neighborhood, but residents are minutes from shopping, parks and other amenities on Massachusetts, Wisconsin and New Mexico Avenues.
